I do not mean to be negative but I tried this netbook out at a local RadioShack store. They carry the HP 210 Netbook. The overall feel of the netbook was “plasticky” and “very plain. ” As far as specifications, it seems to be competitive with other available N450 processor netbook in the market.

I just wanted to warn others about a major drawback of the Windows 7 Starter Operating System that this netbook comes with. I wasn’t aware of it when I made my purchase, and I wish I had been. Windows 7 Starter is a very scaled back version of Windows 7 that is only available pre-installed on netbooks. It it does not have full-featured functionality. It does not, for example, allow a user to change their desktop background. The stock blue Windows background it comes with is what you’re stuck with, unless you use third-party workarounds. You also cannot change window colors or sound schemes. Additionally, it does not offer DVD playback. So, if you had planned on attaching a portable drive to watch movies–think again. I highly recommend doing your own research into the limitations of Windows 7 Starter before you buy, if you plan to use it as your primary operating system.

I purchased this netbook because of the small size, excellent price, long battery life, and great customer service that HP is known for.
As far as the computer goes. . .
The computer itself is very light weight and easy to tote around. Not too heavy in a purse or bag and the size it great for concealing what you’re carrying, say on a city bus or train.
I’m not a big Winblows fan so I changed the OS to Linux Mint 8 and that gave me back around 8 or 10GB of space that the old OS was eating up. There is plenty of room on the hard drive for a mid-sized music collection, lots of files, and plenty of pictures with room to spare.
The keyboard is great, but lacks a home key, page up, and page down. The touch pad gives you the ability to double click or single click by touch and there is a button on the keyboard for a right-click action.
The AC adapter is plenty long for most tasks and the battery life is excellent.
The webcam is fairly low quality but for basic things, such as using Skype or other conferencing methods, it will do the job. Speakers and mic are great and produce good quality sound for a netbook.
Customer Service. . .
After having the 210-1030nr for only two weeks, my hard drive went bad. No drops, no spills, no crazy room mates, just went bad. I called HP customer service and they were excellent! They’re sending me the shipping materials to send the computer back and are footing the repair bill for me. Great customer service, just like I expected.
The 210-1030nr would have earned that fifth star had the hard drive not gone bad on me. I know, however, that this is a rare occasion for a netbook and sometimes things are not made properly or other issues occur that are beyond my, or any one else’s, control.
This HP has performed very well up until the hiccup with the hard drive. My boyfriend was very impressed with the machine, despite his initial aversion to it’s small size; he was worried it would be fragile or flimsy. He will be purchasing one for himself very soon.

Okay, I’m just going to write a short, straight to the point review on this netbook. I first purchased this netbook here on Amazon when I received a $300 Amazon Gift-Card for completing online surveys. I originally owned an Acer Aspire and mostly IBM ThinkPads. So this was pretty much my first netbook I’ve ever owned. When I first opened it, I was surprised how small and lightweight this laptop was. It obviously has a 10. 1″ screen and weighs less than 3 pounds so you can easily fit this laptop in a small backpack or even a larger purse! What you get out of the box are power cables, 3-cell battery, cleaning cloth, manuals, and the netbook. The netbook itself does a have a decent keyboard and a very sleek design compared to most other netbooks. Unlike most HP laptops, this one does not have any imprint finishes or designs on the cover. If you are getting this HP Mini or any netbook out there for the first time, it’ll take some time to get used to it since the screen is considerably much smaller and the computer runs slower. A few things I didn’t like about this netbook is that the cover of the laptop gets fingerprints very easily and the touchpad isn’t that good. Also, you’ll get only about 2 hours at most of batter life when fully charged. The main problem I have with the touchpad is that the clicking buttons are also part of the pad and you can move the mouse even by touching the clicking buttons. What happens is that your cursor may move all over the screen. Also, the screen it has is not one of those shinny, glossy ones, it’s a matte finish. This is a great laptop to buy if all you’ll need to do is listen to music, browse internet, do homework, or to check emails. If you’re like me, that creates websites and does video editing, this laptop is definitely not for you since this laptop will keep freezing. Netbooks are just for basic things and can only runs like 2-3 programs smoothly. I would definitely recommend this laptop and it runs at a very good price ($298. 95) when I brought it.
